Lindt Creation Dessert Ballotin: A disappointing dessert

Swiss chocolate company Lindt has been producing chocolate since 1845 when in a small pastry shop on Marktgasse in Zurich’s old town David Sprüngli-Schwarz and his 29 year old son Rudolf Sprüngli-Ammann began their chocolate endeavour. The new fashion in Italy was for solid bars and the duo followed suit. Prior to this point chocolate was mainly revered in its liquid form, as a drink. The new treat rapidly became popular among the fine Zurich society.

Today the group has production companies around the world and produces a vast range of chocolate bars and confectionary, from velvety almond vanilla bars to chocolate spoons. I’m a fan of their high cocoa bars such as the 90% Excellence bar and for an almost totally cocoa hit the 99% cocoa bar containing just a dash of demerara sugar. On this occasion I reviewed something rather more saccharin, the Creation Dessert Ballotin Assorted. Lately I have a fascination with desserts in chocolate form!

The box is very reasonably priced at £6.99 and includes Macaroon, Lemon Tart, Creme Brulee, Brownie and Meringue flavoured chocolates. It’s definitely not for the high cocoa lovers because this pretty little confections are a pure sugar hit, even compared to some other dessert based chocolates. They were just satisfactory to be honest. They didn’t extraordinarily mirror their dessert counterparts. They weren’t exquisite or terrible, just sweet! Something to grab perhaps after a meal in a hurry, but not something to savour and delight in.

So, if you’re a huge fan of desserts and you’re looking for a chocolate counterpart there are better chocolate brands out there, or you might be better off buying one of their Excellence bars such as Strawberry Intense or one of their other ranges, or indeed looking elsewhere!

The chocolate hater says…

I don’t mind it, but white chocolate is always too sweet for me. It helps me train harder though, so I forgive it!
